Chandigarh, November 9
When Simran Singh and Manisha decided to tie the knot this year, the New Zealand-based couple did not waste a second to arrange for solemnising their bond on November 11.
A doctor by profession, Simran, currently in Ambala, said, “ The date is unique and occurs once in centuries. It complimented the uniqueness of our relationship and so, we decided to get married on this day.”
“Who will not want to have something rare or special for one’s relationship and getting married on a date which may not occur till the next century? It is a great feeling and I am on cloud nine,” said Manisha.
Though the Hindu calendar had no special ‘muhurat’ on 11/11/11, it had not stopped youngsters from eschewing the almanac and opting for the special date for their wedding.
The multi-crore marriage industry in the tricity was awaiting a windfall on November 11 as over 3,000 couples fell for the once-in-a-century configuration.
The rush had left not only wedding planners, beauticians and pundits scrambling, but also several families flummoxed about how to juggle multiple invitations to different venues.
“Hotels are booked and we are still getting last-minute requests to manage some space. The date has attracted many people because of its uniqueness and led to a mad rush at hotels and marriage vernues,” said AK Malhotra, who was in the tourism industry.
“My daughter is going in for a love marriage. The marriage was fixed in October. She was adamant on November 11. Finding a venue has been a nightmare for me. Now I have got a hotel on the outskirts of Mohali. I am having a tough time managing everything, but if it is that rare, it is worth it,” said Ram Singh Aulakh of Sector 45.
Astrological significance
According to astrologers, the day is particularly good for Librans and Aquarians. Marrying on this day will ensure happiness in married life. From the point of view of Indian marriage astrology, there is nothing that great or auspicious about 11/11/11, but nothing ominous either. The time between 5:30 pm and 11 pm is particularly ‘shubh’ for ceremonies.
Numerological significance
The number 11 is associated with inspiration, creativity, truth and revelation. From another angle, the number 11 seems to incorporate the positive points of both one as well as two (since 1+1 = 2). The number one represents leadership, independence and vision while the number two embodies companionship, love, harmony and peace.
