Kingfisher Airlines has suspended operations in a number of cities and asked its employees there to stay at home till further notice. In a statement released here, the airline said it was in the process of finalising a recapitalisation plan after which the employees would be recalled.
The airline has not paid its employees for more than two months and it is not clear whether they will be paid for the time they are asked not to report for work. However, reports over the weekend indicated that the Vijay Mallya-owned venture was putting in a leave-without-pay schedule for the employees.
Kingfisher has till earlier this month stopped flying to Kolkata and Lucknow. Services to Hyderabad from several cities have also been suspended as are flights between Chennai and Delhi, according to travel agency sources.
It is also no longer flying to Ahmedabad, according to sources. Flights to Amritsar too were in the process of being scrapped, said sources.
Reports said that Kingfisher was operating just 20-25 flights from its base in Bangalore as against the 60 flights it operated during its heyday.
