A Punjabi couple from Jodhpur village near Barnala was killed in the Philippines yesterday.
Sources said a few unidentified persons attacked Kulwant Singh (43) and his wife Charanjit Kaur (40) in Ilu area of the Philippines with sharp-edged weapons and killed them. The couple was kidnapped earlier.
Mukhtiar Singh, father of the deceased, today said his other son Udham Singh, who is also in the Phillipines, had informed him of the killings over the phone.
Mukhtiar said Kulwant Singh and Charanjit Kaur, who ran a finance business, were kidnapped by armed persons when they were returning home.
The assailants killed the couple after robbing them and then fled from the spot, he said.
Mukhtiar said the duo had gone abroad around nine years ago to make money. The couple is survived by a daughter (21) and a son (20).
