Iconic wrestler-turned-actor Dara Singh passes away


MUMBAI 12 July, 2012: Legendary wrestler and actor Dara Singh passed away at his Mumbai home early on Thursday. He was 83.

Dara Singh, who was admitted to Kokilaben Hospital last week after a cardiac arrest, was taken back to his home on Wednesday night after his condition failed to improve despite continuous medical effort. Doctors, on Wednesday, had said that chances of Dara Singh's recovery were poor.

Doctors said that Dara Singh had suffered significant brain damage after the cardiac arrest.
He had appeared in films like "Watan Se Door", "Daada", "Rustom-E-Baghdad", "Sher Dil", "Sikandar E Azam", "Raaka", "Mera Naam Joker" and "Dharam Karam". He was last seen in the 2007 release "Jab We Met".

World champion wrestler Dara Singh, who joined the film industry in 1960s, was last seen in 2007 movie 'Jab We Met' alongside Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor.

‘Mahabali’ Dara Singh was the undisputed champion of champions in the wrestling ring and has won many times including the world championship in 1968.

He took to acting in 1962 and is best remembered for his portrayal of Hanuman in popular TV series ‘Ramayan’.

Dara Singh, who was a Rajya Sabha member from August 2003 to 2009, was best remembered for his iconic role as 'Hanuman' in the epic TV serial 'Ramayan'.

He had also directed films.

Dara Singh was also known for his generous kind nature. Affable to the extreme, he made friends easily and never misused his power even in his heydays.

He was a gentleman. India has a lost a jewel today. All Canadain NRIs plunged into deep soorow.

Maruti is all set to launch its another small Indian car on Diwali 2012. Maruti Cervo is an effective effort from the company to capture entry-level segment of Indian auto market. The car is supposed to be the best selling car after its launch. Reasons for this statement are many, not one. Maruti has not yet announced the starting of Maruti Cervo booking, but when it starts, it is sure to bag thousands within a day.

Maruti Cervo boasts of a sleek and sporty look, with beautiful exteriors ready to woo youngsters. The car is expected to be priced between Rs. 1.5 to 2 lakhs, which is an affordable price for such a feature rich car. Front of the car looks aggressive, having large smiling grille with chrome finished strip. It has honeycomb radiator grille, eye-shaped cluster of headlights, arching roofline, beautiful wheel covers and body colored handles, bars and side-view mirrors.
Technical specifications
Powered with a 660cc petrol engine, the car is expected to give a mileage of 20 to 24 kmpl, and run at the speed of 115km/h. It will able to generate top torque of 64Nm and 60bhp. Yet to be launched, Maruti Cervo is a 5-door hatch-back model, with a decent luggage box and spacious cabin. It has 4 speed automatic transmission system, and its advanced variable valve timing technology will ensure overall engine efficiency. The car sports a spacious and comfortable interior, with a nice boot space. Steering wheel will be three spooked, and dashboard will comprise of AC vents from both sides, similar to the Maruti Swift, along with a storage box.
Maruti Cervo booking will perhaps start soon. Though, the number of variants on offer is yet to be confirmed. It is expected to be priced between Rs. 1.5 to 2 lakhs (ex showroom price).

Maruti, which has been mesmerizing many by its additions to list of cars, has now announced the launch of Maruti Cervo 2012 for Diwali. The phenomenal thing about the Maruti Cervo 2012 is that it is the replacement of the iconic Maruti 800.
Economic Times reports that the Maruti Cervo 2012 will be launched on Diwali and will be available for a price tag of Rs. 2-2.5 lakh. Officials from Maruti announced that the works on the car are still be carried and will be ready before Diwali.
The Maruti Cervo 2012 is smaller than the Chevrolet Beat with cues from Honda Jazz’s design. The highlighting feature of the Maruti Cervo 2012 is the fuel efficiency. The 2012 version of the car is will be powered by Suzuki’s 660cc engine, which is lower than the Nano (623CC) but priced higher than the Tata Nano.
The dashboard of the new Cervo looks similar to that of the Maruti Swift with rectangular air vents in the centre and the circular ones on the sides.
Disappointment :
The disappointing thing about the new Cervo 2012 is that, an official from the company said that the car might not look like that of the picture.
